FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, July 20, 2005

Officials of Acadian Ambulance Service have announced that Gil Villian has been chosen as a finalist for the 2005 Paramedic of the Year award. Villian represents the Baton Rouge/Capital area and works a swing schedule. Each year the medics of Acadian Ambulance Service select one of their peers as the outstanding paramedic of the year.

“The honor we pay to our Medic of the Year for outstanding service is shared by all Acadian medics, and especially those who were bestowed the honor of nominee,” said Director of Operations, Danny Lennie. "The nominees bring a high degree of professionalism to their jobs, as well as an attitude of caring and concern for the people they serve. We are proud to recognize Gil as an outstanding medic in the field of emergency medical services and as the Medic of the Year Nominee for the Capital Area.”

Villian joined Acadian Ambulance in 1996. Vallian’s peers in their nomination said, “Gil is a well seasoned medic with an exceptionally strong work ethic and an outstanding, positive and contagious attitude. He loves his profession and takes pride in all aspects of his job.”

In addition to his full time Paramedic position, Vallian is a preceptor and mentor for new employees in the Baton Rouge area and teaches at the National EMS Academy in Baton Rouge.

The 2005 Medic of the Year will be announced at the annual Paramedic Luncheon on October 28 in Lafayette. Former United States President George Bush will serve as guest speaker for the event where more than 800 guests from the medical community, elected officials and public safety agencies are expected to attend.
