Officials of Acadian Ambulance Service have announced that Gifford Saravia has been selected as a finalist for the 2004 Paramedic of the Year award. Saravia represents Vermilion, St. Martin, Iberia and Lafayette parishes. Each year the medics of Acadian Ambulance Service select one of their peers as the outstanding paramedic of the year. “The honor we pay to our Medic of the Year for outstanding service is shared by all Acadian medics, and especially those who were bestowed the honor of nominee,” said Vice President of Operations, Jerry Romero. "The nominees bring a high degree of professionalism to their jobs, as well as an attitude of caring and concern for the people they serve. We are proud to recognize Gifford as an outstanding medic in the field of emergency medical services and as the Medic of the Year Nominee for our district.”

Saravia works in Lafayette as an Education Coordinator at the National EMS Academy.

“I am honored to represent my fellow employees in Acadiana,” said Saravia. “I love what I do, and I try to treat all of my patients as I would a close friend.”
Saravia joined Acadian Ambulance in 1991 working on a ground unit. In May 2004, Gifford assumed the position of education coordinator at the Academy to assist in the high demand of paramedic instructors.

Saravia is also the Chief Forensic Investigator for the Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office.

He and his wife Paula and their children Jordy and Lauren reside in New Iberia.
