Officials of Acadian Ambulance Service have announced that Taylor Jacobsen has been selected as a finalist for the 2004 Paramedic of the Year award. Jacobsen represents St. Helena, St. Tammany, and Tangipahoa parishes. A seven-year employee of Acadian Ambulance, Jacobsen works in Tangipahoa parish. Each year the medics of Acadian Ambulance Service select one of their peers as the outstanding paramedic of the year.

A life long resident of Tangipahoa parish, Jacobsen joined Acadian Ambulance in 1997 after attending Louisiana Technical College in Hammond for EMT-Basic training. After working as an EMT Basic, she returned to the college in 1999 to complete her paramedic training. “Taylor is well respected amongst her peers and strives to stay abreast of critical changes in the field,” states Mark Reis, Operations Manager for Southeastern Louisiana service area. Reis adds, “Taylor is best known for her ability to communicate with others as well as her ability to bring calmness to her coworkers and patients when dealing with stressful and chaotic situations.”

In addition to her full time Paramedic position, Jacobsen is a Basic Life Support Instructor and a paramedic preceptor for new employees in the area. She also offers assistance to the National EMS Academy in Covington.

Jacobsen and her husband, John, reside in Independence.

The 2004 Medic of the Year will be announced at the annual Paramedic Luncheon on Wednesday, August 18 in Lafayette. U.S. Senator John Breaux will serve as master of ceremonies for the event where more than 800 guests from the medical community, elected officials and public safety agencies are expected to attend. Scheduled as guest speaker for the event is Surgeon General Richard Carmona.
