FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, June 24, 2004

Officials of Acadian Ambulance Service have announced that Louis Eschete has been chosen as a finalist for the 2004 Paramedic of the Year award. Eschete represents Assumption, Lafourche, St. James, St. John, St. Mary, and Terrebonne parishes. A twelve-year employee at Acadian Ambulance Service, Eschete works in Terrebonne parish. Each year the medics of Acadian Ambulance Service select one of their peers as the outstanding paramedic of the year.

“The honor we pay to our Medic of the Year for outstanding service is shared by all Acadian medics, and especially those who were bestowed the honor of nominee,” said Vice President of Operations, Steve Kuiper. "The nominees bring a high degree of professionalism to their jobs, as well as an attitude of caring and concern for the people they serve. We are proud to recognize Louis as an outstanding medic in the field of emergency medical services and as the Medic of the Year Nominee for the offshore operations.”

Eschete joined Acadian Ambulance in 1992 after receiving EMT Basic training at the Houma Vo-Tech. Eschete’s peers in their nomination said, “Louis is compassionate and dedicated to doing what is best for his patients. You will often find him reviewing his previous calls, critiquing himself, and searching for opportunities to improve.”

In addition to his full time Paramedic position, Eschete is a preceptor for new employees in his area and is actively involved in the SHOC team, which promotes safety and health for Acadian employees.
Eschete, his wife, and son reside in Houma.

The 2004 Medic of the Year will be announced at the annual Paramedic Luncheon on Wednesday, August 18 in Lafayette. U.S. Senator John Breaux will serve as master of ceremonies for the event where more than 800 guests from the medical community, elected officials and public safety agencies are expected to attend. Scheduled as guest speaker for the event is Surgeon General Richard Carmona.
